Summer Reading Project
The Theme of In the Darkness was would be that life is full of obstacles, it just takes time to reach what you intended to before, and reaching that goal should mean more to you than anything. The quote from the book that supports this would be “We understand what Boukman said in Bois Caimen; we understand it for the first time. Behind the mountain is another mountain; behind the fire is another fire; behind all of this is another thing, another mass, and it does not correspond of this world; it is everything that is here in the world, but it is so much more, too (Lake 326)." This quote explains the theme because it's showing that in the book Bois Caimen the many obstacles he had to go through, and no matter how many he made it through there was always another one he has to face. The book was about the struggle a little Haitian boy had to go through to stay alive while under a crumbled hospital after the Haiti Earthquake. Also the story of Toussaint l’Ouverture and his fight to get equal rights for the slaves and slave women.
This article is about the basics of what the books mainly about, not in detail but mostly an overall summary of the book.In the Darkness Article
